Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Timothy Hodgson was in Iqaluit, Nunavut this morning with MP Lori Idlout, WKR co-Chairman David Omilgoitok and WKR CEO Brendan Bell to make a transformative announcement supporting Inuit-led Arctic economic development.

WKR is thrilled to report that Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has conditionally approved a grant of up to $50 million towards Grays Bay Road and Port Project development, through the First and Last Mile Fund. This investment will support planning and preconstruction work for the Grays Bay, following the project’s referral to the Major Projects Office by Prime Minister Carney this March. Grays Bay will unlock the high-grade critical mineral resources of the Kitikmeot Region, including copper and zinc deposits.

The announcement event was attended by incoming Kitikmeot Inuit Association CEO Pamela Hakongak Gross, KIA Board member Tars Angutingunirk, Nunavut Premier John Main, Minister Craig Simailak, Nunavut Tunngavik CEO Kilikvak Kabloona, and ATCO Frontec President Jim Landon.
